The Seriousness and Consequences of Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the most serious conditions that a person can experience. Though it is commonly confused with a heart attack, a sudden cardiac arrest is a completely different condition. It is one of the top five causes of death in the United States. It strikes over 300,000 people every year and among all of them, only a mere 5% manage to survive after the sudden cardiac arrest.

Sudden cardiac arrest can occur anywhere at any time. School children, teenagers and adults can all suffer from this condition and this is the main reason behind the installation of AED’s at all schools, workplaces and homes. The treatment for sudden cardiac arrest has to be administered within minutes, failing which, the person loses his life.

Only one out of every 20 victims of sudden cardiac arrest survives and this is mainly because of immediate treatment given with the help of an AED. Thus, it is highly essential to have an AED present at all places and homes and also make it accessible to everyone at all times.
