Day Care Centers Should Install Automated External Defibrillators

One of the leading causes of death in the United States is a heart problem known as sudden cardiac arrest Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when there is a problem with the electrical impulses of the heart. This condition doesn’t just impact the sick or the elderly, but healthy people at any time.

Every year more than three hundred thousand individuals encounter this condition so it’s crucial that we start to understand this condition and learn what can be done when it impacts children. It is said that fewer than 6 percent off sufferers live after encountering SCA but that figure would be in excess of 50% if an automated external defibrillator was used within five minutes of the patient collapsing from SCA.

It is documented that between 2000-2006 there have been over 500 incidents of SCA occurring to youngsters at school. The most common place where SCA occurs is in gym class where physical activity can strain the heart. As a sudden cardiac arrest can be encountered by anyone irrespective of their age and as such, the faculty and students both have to be protected in case of such an incident taking place.

An automated external defibrillator is a device approved by the FDA that will send an electrical shock to a patient experience SCA that will put the heart back into its normal rhythm. Most schools have made sure to install AED’s in gyms or where sports are played by children, however, there are few AED’s mounted in day care centers. There are several programs by the government and institutions like the American Heart Association which have made certain that most of the schools and day care centers have an access to an AED.

Once an AED has been connected to a individual in begins monitoring the heart. Only if the heart has stopped will the defibrillator verbal and visually advise the care giver to push the shock button. With minimal training the average person, teacher, or day care center employee can learn to use a defibrillator. Automated external defibrillators typically cost between $1000-$2000 dollars which is truly an affordable price since you may be saving the life of a child.

The Philips FRx is an outstanding defibrillator that works both with adults and children when you use in in conjunction with the 989803139311 that will regulate the voltage.

Eating Healthy For Life

Everyone always talks about the best way to stay healthy is diet and exercise.  But what does that really mean.  In this blog entry we'll explore some specific foods that can contribute to a healthy heart.

One of the best known foods for maintaining a healthy heart is seafood.  Fish has a high content of omega-3 oils that are proven to lower blood pressure and reduce the strain on your heart.  But not all fish meat is equal.  Some fish are better than others for health.  For example, darker meat fish like catfish are not good for your health while white fish such as halibut can rich in anti-oxidants and omega-3 which contribute to a healthy heart.

Mother said always eat your vegetables.  Just like everything else Mom said this turns out to be true.  Vegetables are high in anti-oxidants and iron which prevent blood clots.  A good rule of thumb is to try to eat 3 servings a day or fruits and vegetables.

Nuts... No not what you're going through but the hard shell type.  Walnuts especially are considered a good source of protein and have shown in studies to reduce triglycerides.  Again, before adding anything new to your diet you should always consult your doctor.

Ethnic spices have shown to have a positive affect on fighting heart disease.  Cayenne, ginger, horseradish, and carob all have shown in studies to fight high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.  You should always consult a nutritionists to determine which of these spices are right for you.

If you believe that you are at high risk for heart disease it's highly recommend that you seek the advice of a doctor. Modern technology has provided us prescriptions that can lower high blood pressure, prevent arterial plaque, and lower cholesterol.

If you believe your at risk for heart related symptoms and not just heart disease, you should always see a doctor as soon as possible.  For more information about aed batteries and staying healthy you should visit aedlifepower.com.

Contributing Factors to Heart Disease

Every day your heart beats over 100,000 times and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood.  Since the day we were born we take the importance of the function of our heart for granted.  However, over 50 million American have heart disease that can lead to failure.  Most people go there entire lives without ever knowing that the condition exists until that fateful moment right before their death. Together we will explore some of the contributing factors that lead to heart disease in hopes that education will encourage more people to be diagnosed and treated before its too late.

Hypertension
Hypertension, or chronic high blood pressure is often associated with heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease.  Hypertension impacts specific genetic lines more than others.  For example, Africans are considered to be of higher risk than whites or Asians.  Since the presence of hypertension is difficult to detect by doctors, it’s often considered the silent killer of adults.

Diabetes
People with diabetes generally have other contributing factors like high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and high cholesterol.  What happens to people with diabetes is that the body begins to store fat and collect lipids.  The lipids begin to harden into arterial plaque which blocks the normal flow of blood pumping through the veins.

Metabolism
In recent years doctors have found that metabolism plays a large role in heart disease.  This condition is refered to Metabolic Syndrome and affects over 50 million Americans.  Metabolism Syndrome typically includes the following conditions:  Tryglycerides level above 150, Blood Pressure of 130/85 or more, Blood Sugar of 100 or more, and patient’s weight.  A weight of 250 pounds for men and 200 pounds for women is one of the signs of a metabolism condition that could lead to heart disease.

Blood Pumping Disorder
Blood flow to the heart can become irregular and is often associated with congestive heart failure.  This condition occurs any time when the heart does not receive oxygenated blood.  This can be brought on by an arrhythmia in the arterial or ventricle parts of the heart.

We have listed just a few of the main issues that contribute to heart failure.  We encourage anyone who believes that they have any of these conditions to visit their general practitioner.  With diet and drugs many of these issues can be remedy or controlled to prevent heart disease.

Keeping your heart healthy is critical and you should always keep your AED battery fully charge and always have an extra M5070A.

AED Little Anne Training System

When speaking of training there was no one that said it better than Vince Lombardi, "I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline... I firmly believe that any man's finest hour-this greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear--is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle -- victorious."

Clearly training for the moment is the best preparation for a sports team but it's also the same in the real life scenarios.  That's why Philips manufactured the Little Anne Training System model number M3756A.  It allows a trainer to simulate life saving techniques using the Philips FRx defibrillator in a multitude of scenarios.  This package is complete with a real life mannequin that will allow you to place the pads on the patient while an instructor evaluates the position and connection to the AED.

The package also comes with a trainer AED and remote control that allows the certified instructor to choose from 10 different scenarios that a care giver may be confronted with during an emergency.  The trainer can use the included remote control to stop or pause the scenario during training to provide direct and personal constructive feedback to the care giver on the proper method of placing the pads on the patient or the correct method of performing CPR.

Trainers are now retraining their customers with the release of the new 2010 CPR guidelines.  Prior to 2010, the method was known as ABC: Airway, Breathing, and Chest Compressions.  Now with recent chances they have recommended CAB.  Chest, Airway, Breathing.  They have found that the likely hood for resuscitation of a patient is much higher if the focus is on chest compressions.  The Little Anne Training System allows the student to practice chest compressions which should be 2 - 2.5" deep for each compression.  Compression should be fast or about 100 beats per minute.  The system will also provide verbal feedback to the student if pad placement is correct and visual LEDs.

To save money Philips also has developed a special training aed pad to be used with the AED Training system.  Training pads are about 50% of the price of the actual pads.  Becoming CPR trained is great, but you should also consider AED training now with the continued placement of defibrillator's in public places there is a high probability that in the event someone experiences a sudden cardiac arrest you will need to provide CPR along with use a portable defibrillator.

Inspecting Your Defibrillator

An Automated External Defibrillator or more commonly known as an AED is a very important piece of healthcare equipment used to help save lives. This battery operated machine can literally save lives minutes after SCA or Sudden Cardiac Arrest. AED's are used to treat heart failures, correct arrhythmias or abnormal heart rhythms, prevent further deterioration of the heart and many more life saving interventions. Due to its valuable impact on one's health, different laws had been passed requiring big establishments such as buildings, parks, fitness centers, schools and all others to have an AED present and usable all the time. However, AEDs are battery operated machines that needs to be cared and maintained to prevent deadly failures and risky malfunctions. Owning an AED is the first step to saving lives, however there are certain steps one should take to guarantee that it's functional when you need it.
First, all AED's perform a regular self-check of their circuitry and the battery to verify that the internals are working properly and the battery has enough of a charge to shock a patient. If the device is not functioning properly then it will begin beeping or chirping until someone inspects it.
Secondly, you should check the expiration dates of the pads and battery. Both components have a shelf life anywhere between 2-5 years. Batteries are composed of lithium ion which will eventually not keep a charge after several years. The pads have a special adhesive gel that attaches to the patient during an emergency which will dry out and prevent proper connection. When the pad is not secured to the patient the AED will be unable to detect the heart rhythm of the patient rendering the device useless.
Lastly, you should check with the manufacturer to see if there have been any recalls. These devices are highly regulated by the FDA and they often recall these units. Typical recalls involve firmware of the device. If you device has had a firmware update you should contact the manufacturer to see if you should upgrade yours to a compliant version.
A defibrillator is a highly sophisticated and with regularly inspection you will be sure that your device is ready when an emergency occurs. If you own one of these devices you should build into your company's standard operating procedures at minimum quarterly inspections. After each inspection the date and outcome of the inspection should be documented. These few steps are all that is required to make sure your defibrillator is maintained and ready for use.  You should also always verify that your aed batteries are fully charged and ready for an emergency.

Placing the Philips Adult SMART Pads on the Patient

The Philips Adult SMART Pads are very easy to use when used in conjunction with your Onsite defibrillator.  The Onsite Defibrillator provides audible and visual instructions to the caregiver and on the front of the Philips SMART Pads Cartridge there is an illustration demonstrating proper placement of the pads on the patient. The pads are not specific to left, right, top or bottom.  Always refer to manual provided to you by the manufacturer or take a certification class from an authorized trainer.  For your convenience we have provided the following steps to help you through the process.
  1. Stay calm and request someone call 911 emergency services. More than any other step this is probably the most important.  If you’re not calm and instead erratic you won’t be thinking normally and could make mistakes that lead.
  2.  Pull the green handle of the SMART Pads Cartridge.  When pulled this will activate the Onsite.
  3.  Remove the clothes from the patient’s chest.
  4.  Peel off the protective film seal from the pads and place the first pad on the bare skin of the patient.
  5. The Onsite will automatically detect heart rhythms that the pads are attached to the patient and begin analyzing the patient and will instruct you to provide a shock if needed.

7.       If a shock is required the caution light turns a solid orange and the Shock button starts flashing.  The defibrillators will provide an audible warning telling the caregiver and those around not touch the patient while a shock is sent from the device.

Treatments for Heart Disease and Sudden Cardiac Arrest

50 million people suffer from heart disease around the world.  Modern day technology can detect and treat it with prescription medicines.  However, studies have shown that homeopathic remedies in conjunction with prescriptions have successfully treated and aided those suffering from heart disease.  Some of the most recommended and most studied remedies include:
  • Meditation
  • Prayer
  • Homeopathic
  • Chelation Therapy

Another heart condition is sudden cardiac arrest which is far different than a heart attack.  A heart attack is caused by the build of plaque in the artery preventing the flow of blood to the heart.  SCA, or sudden cardiac arrest is where the hearts normal rhythm is interrupted and the heart stops.

Whereas heart disease is a preventable and treatable condition, SCA is not and can happen in a moment’s notice without warning.

Chelation therapy and homepothic remedies have a positive impact on heart disease they are no proven studies to show that it has any impact on cardiac arrest.  However, meditation and prayer can have a positive impact on cardiac arrest.

10 minutes per day twice a day can be effective at reducing stress and anxiety which can lead to SCA. Meditation is also a great way to change our mood and sense of well being to a positive.  Prayer has been shown to have incredible and miraculous effects on There have been many studies on the impact of prayer for those with heart disease and the results are amazing.

However, the best preventive step to saving a life of someone who has sudden cardiac arrest is to keep a portable defibrillator onsite.  A portable defibrillator along with aed batteries are a proven method for resuscitating a person who experience SCA.  Within 6 minutes of a person having an arrest can save a life.
